What Year 2 fractions of amounts covers
In Year 2, children find a fraction of a small quantity. The curriculum names five of them — 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 — so those five are the only ones this sheet asks for, whether that is 1/2 of 6 or 3/4 of 12. Children share the amount into equal groups, then count the groups the top number asks for. Every amount divides exactly, so the answer is always a whole number. Every sheet is A4, print-ready, and comes with an answer key.
Answers included — a separate marking page with every sheet.
Questions parents ask
What fractions of amounts does Year 2 cover?
Exactly five: 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 of a small quantity — for example 1/2 of 6 or 3/4 of 12. Children share the amount into equal groups, then count the groups the numerator asks for. The amounts are kept small so they can be worked out with objects or by grouping.
Why does this sheet never show 2/3?
Because the Year 2 programme of study never names it. It lists 1/3, 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4, and adds 1/2 alongside them — so those five are all this sheet draws from. Fractions like 2/3 belong to Year 3, where children meet unit and non-unit fractions with small denominators generally. There is a separate Year 3 page for that.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Keep 'Answers' ticked and a separate answer-key page is made with every sheet, so marking takes seconds. Every answer is computed exactly and checked.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Set the sheet up, make it, then print it or download the PDF. There is no login, ever.
